Pattern

Used to politely ask, instruct, or encourage someone to do something. Avoid using it for direct instructions to superiors.

Attach ください to the て-form to make a polite request or instruction. Adding 'すみませんが' before the sentence makes it even politer.

Verb in て-form + ください

すみませんが、この道を教えてください。

すみませんが、このみちをおしえてください。

Excuse me, could you tell me the way?

ここに名前を書いてください。

ここになまえをかいてください。

Please write your name here.

午後3時までに来てください。

ごごさんじまでにきてください。

Please come by 3 p.m.
