Pattern

A casual way of saying you must or have to do something. Shortened from Vないといけません.

Use the negative form of the verb followed by と to show obligation.

Verb (ない-form) + と

明日までにレポートを書かないと。

あしたまでにれぽーとをかかないと。

I have to write the report by tomorrow.

早く起きないと遅刻しますよ。

はやくおきないとちこくしますよ。

If you don't wake up early, you'll be late.
