Explanation
Used when the speaker receives new information and shows understanding or acknowledgment. Often translated as 'I see' or 'Is that so?'.
Usage
Say そうですか after hearing something to confirm you understand or to show interest. Tone can change meaning slightly: rising tone for a question, falling tone for acknowledgment.
