Explanation
どうして is used to ask for a reason. Answers often end with から to indicate the cause.
Usage
Place どうして at the start of a question to ask 'Why?' You can also use どうしてですか after hearing someone's statement to ask for their reason.

Examples
どうして 学校へ 行きませんか。
どうして がっこうへ いきませんか。Why don’t you go to school?
今日は 会議が ありません。どうしてですか。
きょうは かいぎが ありません。どうしてですか。There is no meeting today. Why?
どうして 日本語を 勉強しますか。
どうして にほんごを べんきょうしますか。Why do you study Japanese?
体の 具合が 悪いからです。
からだの ぐあいが わるいからです。Because I don’t feel well.
