Nがあります／います

Pattern

Indicates the existence or presence of a thing or person. The subject is marked with が.

Use あります for inanimate objects, plants, and places that do not move on their own. Use います for animate beings like people and animals.

Noun + が + あります／います

机の上に本があります。

つくえのうえにほんがあります。

There is a book on the desk.

庭に大きな木があります。

にわにおおきなきがあります。

There is a big tree in the garden.

教室に学生がいます。

きょうしつにがくせいがいます。

There are students in the classroom.

公園に猫がいます。

こうえんにねこがいます。

There is a cat in the park.
