動詞辞書形／ない形 + ように

Explanation

Used to express a wish or goal that something should happen, often for events or actions not directly controlled by the speaker. Commonly attached to non-volitional verbs, verbs expressing possibility, or when the subject is in the third person.

Usage

Use when hoping for a certain outcome, giving advice, or stating a purpose without implying direct control over the action.

Formation

Attach ように to the dictionary form or negative form of a verb.

Examples

忘れ物をしないように気をつけています。

わすれものをしないようにきをつけています。

I try to be careful not to forget things.

みんなに聞こえるように大きな声で話してください。

みんなにきこえるようにおおきなこえではなしてください。

Please speak loudly so that everyone can hear you.

道に迷わないように地図を持っていきます。

みちにまよわないようにちずをもっていきます。

I will take a map so that I don't get lost.
