Explanation
Used to express the speaker's impression, guess, or assumption based on what they have observed or sensed.
Usage
〜ようです is used in both formal and informal situations, while 〜みたいです is more casual and should be avoided in formal contexts.
Formation
Attach to the plain form of verbs, い-adjectives, な-adjectives, or nouns.
Examples
外は雨が降っているようです。
そとはあめがふっているようです。It seems like it’s raining outside.
彼は今日忙しいみたいです。
かれはきょういそがしいみたいです。It looks like he is busy today.
このケーキは甘くないようですね。
このけーきはあまくないようですね。This cake doesn’t seem sweet, does it?
