Explanation
Used to compare two things. 〜より means 'more than', and 〜ほど…ません is used for negative comparisons meaning 'not as...as'.
Usage
〜より is used to indicate that one thing has a higher degree or extent than another. 〜ほど…ません is used to say that something does not reach the level of another thing.
Formation
Attach to nouns.
Examples
このアパートは前のアパートより便利です。
このアパートはまえのアパートよりべんりです。This apartment is more convenient than the previous one.
昔は今ほどにぎやかではありませんでした。
むかしはいまほどにぎやかではありませんでした。In the past, it was not as lively as it is now.
