Explanation

Used to express intention more strongly than ～（よ）うと思います. Indicates a decision made earlier rather than at the moment of speaking. The subject is usually the first person. ～つもりはありません expresses a strong form of negation.

Usage

Often used to affirm a prior plan or intent. For third person, add expressions like ～そうです, ～らしいです, or ～と言っています. The negative form ～つもりはありません is stronger than ～ないつもりです.

Formation

Attach つもりです to the dictionary form or negative form of the verb. For strong negation, use つもりはありません.

Examples

来年から日本で働くつもりです。

らいねんからにほんではたらくつもりです。

I intend to work in Japan starting next year.

今日は外出しないつもりです。

きょうはがいしゅつしないつもりです。

I don’t plan to go out today.

その計画には参加するつもりはありません。

そのけいかくにはさんかするつもりはありません。

I have no intention of participating in that plan.
