Pattern

Indicates that when a certain situation occurs, another event will definitely follow.

Often used for natural consequences, habitual results, or instructions. Cannot be followed by expressions of the speaker’s intention or inducement.

Attach と to the dictionary form of the verb.

ボタンを押すと、ドアが開きます。

ボタンをおすと、ドアがあきます。

If you press the button, the door opens.

春になると、花がたくさん咲きます。

はるになると、はながたくさんさきます。

When spring comes, many flowers bloom.

この道をまっすぐ行くと、川に出ます。

このみちをまっすぐいくと、かわにでます。

If you go straight along this road, you’ll reach the river.
