Explanation

Indicates that after a certain event or situation happens, another action or result will follow. This is used for things you know will happen or should be done after that time or event.

Usage

Unlike hypothetical use, here 〜たら marks a condition that is expected to be fulfilled or known in advance.

Formation

Attach ら to the plain past form of verbs, adjectives, or nouns.

Examples

ベルが鳴ったら、授業を始めましょう。

ベルがなったら、じゅぎょうをはじめましょう。

When the bell rings, let’s start the lesson.

授業が終わったら、図書館に行きますか。

じゅぎょうがおわったら、としょかんにいきますか。

After class ends, shall we go to the library?

水が沸いたら、野菜を入れてください。

みずがわいたら、やさいをいれてください。

When the water boils, please add the vegetables.
