Pattern

Used to indicate that an action is done in preparation for something, or to leave a situation as it is.

Attach おきます to the て-form of a verb to express doing something in advance for a future purpose, or to keep the current state.

Verb (て-form) + おきます.

旅行の前に地図を調べておきます。

りょこうのまえにちずをしらべておきます。

I will check the map before the trip.

来客のために部屋を掃除しておきました。

らいきゃくのためにへやをそうじしておきました。

I cleaned the room in advance for the guests.

その資料は机の上に置いておいてください。

そのしりょうはつくえのうえにおいておいてください。
