〜たり〜たりします（contrast）

Pattern

Used when verbs with opposite or contrasting meanings occur together, showing that these actions happen repeatedly or alternately.

Often used to describe fluctuating states or actions that alternate over time.

Use the past form of both verbs, add り after each, and end with します or しました.

天気は晴れたり曇ったりしています。

てんきははれたりくもったりしています。

The weather keeps changing between sunny and cloudy.

彼は笑ったり泣いたりして、感情が忙しそうでした。

かれはわらったりないたりして、かんじょうがいそがしそうでした。

He kept laughing and crying, looking emotionally busy.

猫が部屋を出たり入ったりしています。

ねこがへやをでたりはいったりしています。

The cat keeps going in and out of the room.
