Pattern

Used to make someone do something, to allow someone to do something, or to cause an emotion in someone.

Indicates that the speaker compels, permits, or causes the subject to perform an action or experience an emotion.

When the verb is intransitive: use を. When the verb is transitive: use に.

先生は生徒を早く帰らせました。

せんせいはせいとをはやくかえらせました。

The teacher let the students go home early.

母は弟に部屋を掃除させました。

はははおとうとにへやをそうじさせました。

Mother made my younger brother clean the room.

友達の話に笑わせられた。

ともだちのはなしにわらわせられた。

I was made to laugh by my friend’s story.
