普通形 + らしいです

Explanation

Used to convey information obtained from another source (hearsay) or to make a judgment based on what the speaker has seen or heard. Compared to 〜そうです, the information or details are less certain or more indirect.

Usage

Can be used when reporting information heard from others or when inferring based on available signs. Often paired with information source expressions like ～によると, ～では.

Formation

Attach らしいです to the plain form of verbs, adjectives, and nouns.

Examples

天気予報によると、明日は雪らしいです。

てんきよほうによると、あしたはゆきらしいです。

According to the weather forecast, it might snow tomorrow.

駅前の新しいカフェはとても人気らしいです。

えきまえのあたらしいカフェはとてもにんきらしいです。

The new café in front of the station seems to be very popular.

彼は海外で仕事を見つけたらしいです。

かれはかいがいでしごとをみつけたらしいです。

I heard that he found a job overseas.
