Explanation
Expresses a conclusion or expectation based on objective reasoning or evidence.
Usage
Used when the speaker is fairly certain about something due to logical grounds.
Formation
Attach to the plain form of verbs, い-adjectives, な-adjectives, or nouns.
Examples
駅はこの道をまっすぐ行けばあるはずです。
えきはこのみちをまっすぐいけばあるはずです。The station should be straight ahead on this road.
彼は今、会議室にいるはずです。
かれはいま、かいぎしつにいるはずです。He should be in the meeting room now.
今日は休みだから、図書館は閉まっているはずです。
きょうはやすみだから、としょかんはしまっているはずです。Since it's a holiday today, the library should be closed.
