〜ようにと (quote)

Pattern

Used to quote an instruction, request, or warning, often in indirect speech.

Connects a quoted request or command with verbs such as 言う (to say), 頼む (to ask), 注意する (to warn), etc.

Attach ようにと to the dictionary or negative form of a verb, followed by a verb of speaking/requesting.

先生は学生たちに、遅れないようにと言った。

せんせいはがくせいたちに、おくれないようにといった。

The teacher told the students not to be late.

医者はもっと水を飲むようにと彼に助言した。

いしゃはもっとみずをのむようにとかれにじょげんした。

The doctor advised him to drink more water.
