Formation
Attach という to the plain form of verbs, i-adjectives, na-adjectives, and nouns.

この町の古い橋は、明治時代に建てられたという。
このまちのふるいはしは、めいじじだいにたてられたという。It is said that the old bridge in this town was built in the Meiji era.
この山の名前は、昔の村長がつけたという。
