Pattern

Used to strongly assert that something is definitely not true or cannot possibly happen, based on the speaker's reasoning or conviction.

Often used to reject possibilities, express disbelief, or emphasize the impossibility of a situation.

Attach directly to the plain form of verbs, i-adjectives, na-adjectives, and nouns.

彼がそんな失礼なことを言うはずがない。

かれがそんなしつれいなことをいうはずがない。

There’s no way he would say something so rude.

この値段で本物なわけがない。

このねだんでほんものなわけがない。

At this price, there’s no way it’s genuine.

彼は毎日練習しているのだから、試合に負けるはずがない。

かれはまいにちれんしゅうしているのだから、しあいにまけるはずがない。

Since he practices every day, there’s no way he would lose the match.
