Pattern

Indicates that a change is progressing continuously in one direction, often toward a worsening or undesirable state.

Commonly used with verbs expressing negative change such as 'to weaken', 'to decrease', or 'to worsen'.

Attach ばかりだ to the dictionary form of a verb indicating change.

天気は悪くなるばかりだ。

てんきはわるくなるばかりだ。

The weather just keeps getting worse.

最近、彼の健康は衰えるばかりで心配だ。

さいきん、かれのけんこうはおとろえるばかりでしんぱいだ。

Lately, his health has been declining and I’m worried.
