Explanation
While a continuous state or action is happening, another ongoing action is also happening.
Usage
Used when two continuous actions or conditions occur simultaneously.
Formation
Attach to the ている-form, ない-form of verbs or nouns with の + 間.
Examples
祖母が昼寝をしている間、私は静かに本を読んでいた。
そぼがひるねをしているあいだ、わたしはしずかにほんをよんでいた。While my grandmother was taking a nap, I was quietly reading a book.
姉が留守の間、私が猫の世話をしていました。
あねがるすのあいだ、わたしがねこのせわをしていました。While my sister was away, I looked after the cat.
