〜間に（あいだに）

Pattern

While a continuous action or state is happening, a momentary event occurs.

Used when something happens once during the time another state or action is ongoing.

Attach to ている- or ない-form of verbs or nouns with の + 間に.

母が電話をしている間に、郵便が届いた。

ははがでんわをしているあいだに、ゆうびんがとどいた。

While my mother was on the phone, the mail arrived.

私が留守の間に、部屋にゴミがたまってしまった。

わたしがるすのあいだに、へやにごみがたまってしまった。

While I was away, the room filled with trash.
