Explanation
Used to partially deny or clarify something – it doesn’t mean that the entire statement is true.
Usage
Often used with words like 'always', 'necessarily', 'everyone', 'anywhere', etc., to soften a denial or correct a misunderstanding.
Formation
Attach to the plain form. For な-adjectives and nouns, use な／である or の／である. For というわけではない, use だ after な-adjectives and nouns.
Examples
日本語が話せるからといって、通訳ができるわけではない。
にほんごがはなせるからといって、つうやくができるわけではない。Just because someone can speak Japanese doesn’t mean they can interpret.
忙しいというわけではないが、今日は早く帰りたい。
いそがしいというわけではないが、きょうははやくかえりたい。It’s not that I’m especially busy, but I’d like to go home early today.
いつも遅刻するわけではないんです。今日はたまたまです。
いつもちこくするわけではないんです。きょうはたまたまです。It’s not like I’m always late. It just happened today.
