Pattern

Used to express that something is obvious and also includes other things. Means 'not only ... but also'.

Often used in formal contexts. The phrase following はもとより is considered obvious, and additional examples follow, usually with も.

Attach to a noun that represents the most obvious or expected example.

この美術館は観光客はもとより、地元の人にも人気がある。

このびじゅつかんはかんこうきゃくはもとより、じもとのひとにもにんきがある。

This museum is not only popular with tourists, but also with locals.

運動は健康のためにはもとより、ストレス解消にも効果的です。

うんどうはけんこうのためにはもとより、ストレスかいしょうにもこうかてきです。

Exercise is of course good for your health, but it also helps relieve stress.

この制度は社員はもとより、その家族にも影響を与える。

このせいどはしゃいんはもとより、そのかぞくにもえいきょうをあたえる。

This system affects not only employees but also their families.
