Explanation

Usage

Often used to show that a decision or action is taken after considering or confirming something. Also used with nouns to mean 'in terms of' or 'regarding'.

Formation

Attach to the past form of verbs or to nouns with の.

Examples

必要性を十分に検討した上で、導入を決めた。

ひつようせいをじゅうぶんにけんとうしたうえで、どうにゅうをきめた。

After thoroughly considering the necessity, we decided to implement it.

先生の許可を得た上で、研究を始めた。

せんせいのきょかをえたうえで、けんきゅうをはじめた。

I started the research after getting the teacher’s permission.

安全を確認の上で、作業を進めてください。

あんぜんをかくにんのうえで、さぎょうをすすめてください。
