Pattern

Indicates doing one thing while also doing another; a formal version of 〜ながら.

Used with verbs that express actions taking place over a span of time. The subject of both actions must be the same.

Attach to the ます-stem of a verb. Often used in formal writing.

新しい店舗のことを考えつつ、既存の店舗の管理も続けている。

あたらしいてんぽのことをかんがえつつ、きぞんのてんぽのかんりもつづけている。

While thinking about the new store, I'm also continuing to manage the existing one.

将来の夢を描きつつ、今は目の前の課題に集中している。

しょうらいのゆめをえがきつつ、いまはめのまえのかだいにしゅうちゅうしている。

While envisioning my future dreams, I’m currently focusing on the tasks in front of me.

文化の違いに戸惑いつつ、日本での生活を楽しんでいる。

ぶんかのちがいにとまどいつつ、にほんでのせいかつをたのしんでいる。

While feeling confused by cultural differences, I’m enjoying life in Japan.
