〜てからでないと・〜てからでなければ

Pattern

Indicates that something will not or cannot happen unless a certain condition is fulfilled first.

Used when a required condition or state must be completed before another action can occur. Often followed by negative statements.

Attach to the て-form of a verb, followed by からでないと or からでなければ.

この野菜はよく洗ってからでないと、生では食べられません。

このやさいはよくあらってからでないと、なまではたべられません。

Unless you wash these vegetables thoroughly, you can’t eat them raw.

詳細を確認してからでなければ、契約はできません。

しょうさいをかくにんしてからでなければ、けいやくはできません。

We can’t sign the contract unless we check the details first.

車の整備が終わってからでないと、出発できません。

くるまのせいびがおわってからでないと、しゅっぱつできません。

We can’t leave until the car maintenance is finished.

手術のあと、十分に回復してからでなければ、仕事に戻るのは無理です。

しゅじゅつのあと、じゅうぶんにかいふくしてからでなければ、しごとにもどるのはむりです。

Unless you fully recover after the surgery, returning to work is impossible.
