Pattern

Explanation

Indicates that the speaker is willing to go to extreme or unusual lengths to do something. It shows strong determination or resolve.

Usage

Used with verbs that describe strong or unusual actions. Often followed by expressions of intention or necessity. Implies 'even if I have to...' or 'at all costs'.

Formation

Attach to the て-form of verbs.

Examples

娘がどうしても帰りたくないと言うなら、無理やり連れてでも帰る。

むすめがどうしてもかえりたくないというなら、むりやりつれてでもかえる。

If my daughter refuses to come home, I’ll bring her back even if I have to force her.

どんなに忙しくても、その会議には出てでも参加する必要がある。

どんなにいそがしくても、そのかいぎにはでてでもさんかするひつようがある。

No matter how busy I am, I must attend that meeting even if I have to push through.

2倍の値段を払ってでもその本を手に入れたい。
