Explanation
Expresses that something happened immediately after another action, often unexpectedly.
Usage
Used with verbs that indicate a momentary change. The following clause expresses a surprising or sudden result.
Formation
Attach とたんに to the past form of a verb (Vた形).
Examples
玄関のドアを開けたとたんに、猫が飛び出してきた。
げんかんのドアをあけたとたんに、ねこがとびだしてきた。The moment I opened the door, the cat jumped out.
