Vた形 + ところ

Explanation

Indicates that after trying something or doing something, a certain result or situation became clear.

Usage

Used when the speaker did something and discovered or encountered a result. Emphasis is on the result of the action. Different from simple past tense; focuses on what happened as a result.

Formation

Attach to the past tense form (Vた形) of a verb.

Examples

先生に相談したところ、すぐに対応してもらえた。

せんせいにそうだんしたところ、すぐにたいおうしてもらえた。

When I consulted the teacher, they responded immediately.

電話してみたところ、彼はすでに出発していた。

でんわしてみたところ、かれはすでにしゅっぱつしていた。

When I called him, he had already left.

アンケートを取ったところ、ほとんどの人が賛成だった。

あんけーとをとったところ、ほとんどのひとがさんせいだった。

When we conducted the survey, most people agreed.

その商品を使ってみたところ、予想以上に便利だった。

そのしょうひんをつかってみたところ、よそういじょうにべんりだった。

When I tried using the product, it turned out to be more convenient than expected.
