Pattern

Indicates that after a long process, effort, or struggle, a certain conclusion or result was reached.

Used with verbs or nouns describing prolonged efforts, discussions, or struggles. Often used in formal or written language.

Attach to the past tense of a verb or to a noun with の.

長時間の話し合いの末に、両者は合意に達した。

ちょうじかんのはなしあいのすえに、りょうしゃはごういにたっした。

After long discussions, both sides reached an agreement.

悩んだ末に、転職することを決めた。

なやんだすえに、てんしょくすることをきめた。

After much hesitation, I decided to change jobs.

議論の末、予算案は可決された。

ぎろんのすえ、よさんあんはかけつされた。

After a heated debate, the budget plan was approved.
