Explanation
Used to indicate the time something happens, especially at an important moment or event.
Usage
Common in public announcements, documentation, and polite speech. Not used for everyday casual events.
Formation
Attach '際に' to the dictionary or past form of a verb, or to a noun with の.
Examples
契約を結ぶ際に、注意点をよく確認してください。
けいやくをむすぶさいに、ちゅういてんをよくかくにんしてください。When signing a contract, please carefully check the important points.
引っ越しをした際に、隣の人に挨拶をした。
ひっこしをしたさいに、となりのひとにあいさつをした。When I moved, I greeted my neighbors.
登録の際には、身分証明書が必要です。
とうろくのさいには、みぶんしょうめいしょがひつようです。When registering, an ID is required.
