〜に際して・〜にあたって

Pattern

Used when starting something or on the occasion of an important event. Emphasizes preparation or intentional action.

にあたって is more positive and proactive, while に際して is more neutral and used for announcements or procedures.

Attach to the dictionary form of a verb or to a noun.

会議を始めるに際して、注意事項を説明します。

かいぎをはじめるにさいして、ちゅういじこうをせつめいします。

Before starting the meeting, I will explain the precautions.

新製品の発売に際して、多くのメディアに紹介された。

しんせいひんのはつばいにさいして、おおくのメディアにしょうかいされた。

The new product was introduced in many media upon its release.

イベントを開催するにあたって、多くのボランティアが協力してくれた。

イベントをかいさいするにあたって、おおくのボランティアがきょうりょくしてくれた。

In preparing for the event, many volunteers helped out.

入社にあたって、会社の規則をしっかり理解しておく必要があります。

にゅうしゃにあたって、かいしゃのきそくをしっかりりかいしておくひつようがあります。

When joining the company, it is necessary to understand the company rules thoroughly.
