〜おかげだ・〜せいだ

Pattern

Used to indicate that something is the cause of a result. 'おかげだ' implies a positive outcome, while 'せいだ' implies a negative one.

'おかげだ' is often used to express gratitude. 'せいだ' may be used to place blame.

Attach to nouns, verbs, and adjectives (Aい, Aナ) in plain form. Use の when attaching to a noun.

先輩のアドバイスのおかげで、試験に合格できました。

せんぱいのアドバイスのおかげで、しけんにごうかくできました。

Thanks to my senior's advice, I was able to pass the exam.

昨日の夜更かしのせいで、今日はとても眠いです。

きのうのよふかしのせいで、きょうはとてもねむいです。

Because I stayed up late last night, I'm really sleepy today.

このプロジェクトが成功したのは、チームの努力のおかげだと思います。

このプロジェクトがせいこうしたのは、チームのどりょくのおかげだとおもいます。

I believe this project succeeded thanks to the team's efforts.
