Explanation

Expresses how something is perceived or evaluated from a particular person’s or group’s standpoint.

Usage

Often used with people or groups as the subject to indicate what is important, necessary, or valuable to them. Followed by evaluative or descriptive statements (not actions).

Formation

Attach to nouns that typically refer to people or groups.

Examples

学生にとって、この試験は将来を左右する重要なものです。

がくせいにとって、このしけんはしょうらいをさゆうするじゅうようなものです。

For students, this exam is something that can determine their future.

動物にとって、自然の中で暮らすことが一番の幸せだ。

どうぶつにとって、しぜんのなかでくらすことがいちばんのしあわせだ。

For animals, living in nature is the greatest happiness.

外国人にとって、日本語の敬語はとても難しいものだ。

がいこくじんにとって、にほんごのけいごはとてもむずかしいものだ。

For foreigners, Japanese honorific language is quite difficult.

私にとって、この古い写真は大切な思い出です。

わたしにとって、このふるいしゃしんはたいせつなおもいでです。
