Pattern

Indicates that something is the best option or ideal, even if not absolutely necessary.

Used to express that while other options may be acceptable, this is the best or safest choice. Often used in advice or commentary.

Attach to the plain form of verbs/adjectives. For na-adjectives and nouns, use である + に越したことはない.

安いに越したことはないが、質も大事だ。

やすいにこしたことはないが、しつもだいじだ。

Cheaper is always better, but quality also matters.

健康のためには、早寝早起きに越したことはない。

けんこうのためには、はやねはやおきにこしたことはない。

For your health, there’s nothing better than going to bed early and getting up early.
