Pattern

Used when one feels obligated to do something due to social norms, morals, or common sense.

Implies a sense of duty or pressure to act. The speaker feels it would be inappropriate or wrong not to do it.

Attach to the negative form of a verb (〜ない).

お世話になった先生の招待を断るわけにはいかない。

おせわになったせんせいのしょうたいをことわるわけにはいかない。

I can’t turn down the invitation from the teacher who supported me.

会議の準備を任されたからには、行かないわけにはいかないよね。

かいぎのじゅんびをまかされたからには、いかないわけにはいかないよね。

Since I was put in charge of the meeting prep, I really have to go.
