Pattern

Used when expressing a hypothetical and difficult or unlikely situation that the speaker wishes for or wants to try.

Often conveys a strong wish, hope, or even a challenge. The action is usually unrealistic or hard to achieve.

Attach to the plain dictionary form of a verb.

空を飛べるものなら、一度でいいから鳥のように飛んでみたい。

そらをとべるものなら、いちどでいいからとりのようにとんでみたい。

If I could fly, even just once, I’d love to soar like a bird.

時間を戻せるものなら、もっと勉強しておけばよかったと思う。

じかんをもどせるものなら、もっとべんきょうしておけばよかったとおもう。

If I could turn back time, I wish I had studied more.

やれるものなら、やってみろよ。
