Pattern

Expresses what is generally considered to be true or natural. Often refers to human nature, rules, or common sense.

Used to state generalizations or expected truths about people or society. Avoids use in the past tense.

Attach to verb plain forms, i-adjectives, or na-adjectives with な.

人は誰でも間違えるものだ。

ひとはだれでもまちがえるものだ。

Everyone makes mistakes—it's just human nature.

子どもというのはよく遊ぶものだ。

こどもというのはよくあそぶものだ。

Children naturally love to play.
