Explanation
Indicates that as long as a certain condition or situation continues, another condition or result will also remain valid.
Usage
Used with present tense expressions. Often appears in conditional or habitual contexts. Cannot be used with past-tense results.
Formation
Attach to plain form of verbs and adjectives, or to nouns with である.
Examples
この契約が有効である限り、価格は変更されません。
このけいやくがゆうこうであるかぎり、かかくはへんこうされません。As long as this contract is valid, the price will not change.
健康である限り、旅行を続けたいと思う。
けんこうであるかぎり、りょこうをつづけたいとおもう。As long as I'm healthy, I want to keep traveling.
親がそばにいる限り、子どもは安心していられる。
おやがそばにいるかぎり、こどもはあんしんしていられる。As long as the parents are nearby, the child can feel safe.
