Explanation
Used to deny or reject something as being out of the question, often followed by a statement that shows the situation is much worse or completely different.
Usage
Often used to express that something is far beyond or contrary to expectation.
Formation
Attach to the plain form of verbs, adjectives, or nouns. For な-adjectives and nouns, use な／である or の／である before attaching.
Examples
彼は風邪どころではなく、肺炎で入院することになった。
かれはかぜどころではなく、はいえんでにゅういんすることになった。It wasn't just a cold — he had pneumonia and had to be hospitalized.
忙しすぎて、旅行どころではないよ。
いそがしすぎて、りょこうどころではないよ。I'm way too busy — there's no way I can think about taking a trip.
彼は謝るどころか、私のせいにしてきた。
かれはあやまるどころか、わたしのせいにしてきた。Far from apologizing, he blamed it on me.
