〜べきだ・〜べきではない

Pattern

Expresses moral obligation or natural correctness—what someone should or should not do.

Used to give strong opinions or general advice. 〜べきではない expresses what one should not do.

Attach to dictionary form of verbs. する becomes すべきだ.

もっと早く行くべきだった。

もっとはやくいくべきだった。

I should have gone earlier.

そんなことは他人に言うべきではない。

そんなことはたにんにいうべきではない。

You shouldn’t say things like that to others.
