Explanation
Used to say that not only the obvious thing, but even something of a different degree can be said as well, often with the stronger point coming after it.
Usage
It takes something as a natural or expected standard, and then emphasizes that the situation extends even further. It often appears in negative contexts, and the following clause frequently includes words such as も, さえ, or まで to stress the greater degree.
Formation
Attach はおろか to a noun.
Examples
手の込んだ料理はおろか、普段の簡単な食事を作ることさえおっくうだ。
てのこんだりょうりはおろか、ふだんのかんたんなしょくじをつくることさえおっくうだ。Complicated dishes are out of the question; I even find it a hassle to prepare an ordinary simple meal.
個人商店を取り巻く事情は深刻だ。近所の専門店はおろか、名の通った大型店の閉店まで続いている。
