Explanation
Used to bring up a familiar person or topic and complain about it, saying that it is no good.
Usage
It is a spoken expression. It often introduces someone or something close to the speaker, and the following clause gives a negative evaluation such as dissatisfaction, criticism, or annoyance. It is not followed by the speaker's wishes, intentions, or invitations.
Formation
Attach ときたら to a noun.
Examples
近ごろの若者ときたら、言葉遣いの基本もわかっていない。
ちかごろのわかものときたら、ことばづかいのきほんもわかっていない。Young people these days, honestly, do not even understand the basics of proper language use.
うちの父ときたら、何から何まで母に頼っていて、まったくだらしがない。
うちのちちときたら、なにからなにまでははにたよっていて、まったくだらしがない。As for my father, he relies on my mother for absolutely everything and is utterly hopeless.
隣の家の猫ときたら、毎晩鳴いてばかりで、騒がしくてたまらない。
となりのいえのねこときたら、まいばんないてばかりで、さわがしくてたまらない。That cat next door does nothing but meow every night, and the noise is unbearable.
あの食堂の定食ときたら、値段ばかり高くて味はさっぱり良くない。
あのしょくどうのていしょくときたら、ねだんばかりたかくてあじはさっぱりよくない。As for the set meals at that diner, they are expensive for no reason and do not taste good at all.
