Explanation
Used to express that the degree of something is so extreme that it cannot be adequately described in words.
Usage
It is a spoken expression used to show surprise at an extreme degree. It often follows adjectives or nominalized forms such as 〜さ or 〜しさ. In some cases, especially in emotional speech, the final ない may be omitted.
Formation
Attach といったらない to an i-adjective, na-adjective, or noun.
Examples
あの人のだらしなさといったらない。物は置きっぱなしだし、約束の時間にもいつも遅れるし……。
あのひとのだらしなさといったらない。ものはおきっぱなしだし、やくそくのじかんにもいつもおくれるし……。That person's sloppiness is beyond words. He leaves things lying around and is always late for appointments...
あの食堂の料理のおいしさといったらなかった。今でもその味が忘れられない。
あのしょくどうのりょうりのおいしさといったらなかった。いまでもそのあじがわすれられない。The deliciousness of the food at that diner was indescribable. Even now I still cannot forget that taste.
あの山頂から眺めた景色の美しさといったら……。いつかもう一度きっと見に行きたい。
あのさんちょうからながめたけしきのうつくしさといったら……。いつかもういちどきっとみにいきたい。The beauty of the view from that mountaintop... I definitely want to go see it again someday.
