Explanation
Used to express an extremely strong feeling, to the highest possible degree.
Usage
It does not describe the objective nature of a thing itself, but rather the speaker's emotion about it. It attaches to adjectives that express feelings.
Formation
Attach かぎりだ to an i-adjective or to a na-adjective stem followed by な.
Examples
近ごろ友人たちは皆忙しいのか、誰からも便りがなく、心細いかぎりだ。
ちかごろゆうじんたちはみないそがしいのか、だれからもたよりがなく、こころぼそいかぎりだ。Perhaps all my friends have been busy lately, because I have heard from no one, and I feel extremely lonely and uneasy.
この界隈でひったくり事件があったらしい。物騒なかぎりだ。
このかいわいでひったくりじけんがあったらしい。ぶっそうなかぎりだ。It seems there was a bag-snatching incident in this neighborhood. It is extremely disturbing and dangerous.
このあたりは町並みがすっかり変わって昔の面影が薄れ、残念なかぎりだ。
このあたりはまちなみがすっかりかわってむかしのおもかげがうすれ、ざんねんなかぎりだ。The streets around here have changed completely and the traces of the past have faded, which is deeply regrettable.
