Explanation
Used to express that since a certain change or event happened, the same state has continued ever since.
Usage
It refers to a continuing condition after a meaningful change. It is not used for a very recent short period. The following clause describes a state that has continued after that point.
Formation
Attach からというもの or からというものは to the て-form of a verb.
Examples
息子が大学に進み家を離れてからというもの、家の中はすっかり静かになった。
むすこがだいがくにすすみいえをはなれてからというもの、いえのなかはすっかりしずかになった。Ever since my son went on to university and left home, the house has become completely quiet.
赤ちゃんが生まれてからというものは、子ども用品にばかり目が向いてしまう。
あかちゃんがうまれてからというものは、こどもようひんにばかりめがむいてしまう。Ever since the baby was born, my attention keeps going only to children's goods.
外国へ移ってからというもの、ふるさとの両親のことを考えない日はない。
がいこくへうつってからというもの、ふるさとのりょうしんのことをかんがえないひはない。Ever since I moved abroad, there has not been a day when I did not think about my parents back home.
