Explanation
Used to express that once something happens, it will inevitably lead to a very bad result.
Usage
It often describes a strongly negative consequence that the speaker sees as unavoidable once the preceding action occurs. It can be used for both actual and hypothetical situations.
Formation
Attach ら最後 or が最後 to the ta-form of a verb.
Examples
兄は酒に強いほうだから、飲みだしたら最後、正体をなくすまで飲み続けてしまう。
あにはさけにつよいほうだから、のみだしたらさいご、しょうたいをなくすまでのみつづけてしまう。My older brother can drink a lot, and once he starts, he keeps drinking until he loses control of himself.
うちの妹はスマホの前に座ったが最後、呼びかけても返事ひとつしない。
うちのいもうとはスマホのまえにすわったがさいご、よびかけてもへんじひとつしない。Once my younger sister sits down in front of her smartphone, she will not respond even if you call out to her.
あの人に通帳を預けたら最後、何に使い込まれるかわかったものではない。
あのひとにつうちょうをあずけたらさいご、なにつかいこまれるかわかったものではない。If you entrust your bankbook to that person, there is no knowing what they might misuse the money for.
