〜始末だ

Explanation
Used to express that after a bad situation continues or develops, it finally ends in an undesirable result.
Usage
It is used for negative outcomes. Usually the sentence explains beforehand that a bad condition or problematic behavior had been continuing. Words such as ついに, とうとう, or 〜まで are often used together to emphasize the unpleasant result.
Formation
Attach 始末だ to the dictionary form of a verb.
Examples
あいつは遊んでばかりいてろくに働きもせず、とうとう職場を去る始末だ。
あいつはあそんでばかりいてろくにはたらきもせず、とうとうしょくばをさるしまつだ。He did nothing but fool around and hardly worked at all, and in the end it came to the point that he left his job.
小野さんは酒を飲んで大声で騒ぎ続けたあげく、ついには泣き崩れる始末だった。
おのさんはさけをのんでおおごえでさわぎつづけたあげく、ついにはなきくずれるしまつだった。After drinking and continuing to make a loud commotion, Ms. Ono finally ended up collapsing in tears.
兄は借金を返すと言って家にある物を次々金に換え、祖父の形見にまで手を出す始末だ。
あにはしゃっきんをかえすといっていえにあるものをつぎつぎかねにかえ、そふのかたみにまでてをだすしまつだ。Saying he would repay his debts, my older brother kept turning things in the house into cash, and it even got to the point that he laid hands on my grandfather's keepsake.
