N + をおいて

Explanation

Used to express that apart from that person or thing, there is nothing else of equal value, suitability, or excellence.

Usage

It is used for something the speaker highly values or rates very highly. The following clause usually includes expressions such as ほかにいない or 〜ない to show that no other candidate compares.

Formation

Attach をおいて to a noun.

Examples

今、こんな見事な配色の染め物ができる人は、東山さんをおいてほかにいない。

いま、こんなみごとなはいしょくのそめものができるひとは、ひがしやまさんをおいてほかにいない。

Right now, apart from Mr. Higashiyama, there is no one else who can create dyed works with such superb color combinations.

もし日本で国際的な平和会議を開くなら、長崎と広島をおいてほかに適地は思い浮かばない。
